So who is responsible for the Mess the Music Business is in?

Posted: November 14, 2011 in Artist Management, General Music

Of course not you couldn’t be you….. it was the Record Label who screwed up your career and your manager was useless!

Not everyone says this of course but there is sometimes a tendency to blame others would you agree?

For instance if only your  manager could have gotten a decent agent it would have all been different.

It’s because people don’t come to live gigs anymore because they can spend their dollars on so many other things these days like iPhones,  Computers , DVDs  and kids are raised on Video games.

Besides  downloads and Internet piracy have ruined the Music Business and the Record Labels were always ripping off the artists anyways to ultimately satisfy their bottom line…it was always the bottom line!!!

Well I think thats all BS,tending towards irresponsibility and real bottom line is actually you ……

It starts with you and ends with you and you are entirely responsible for your own condition good or bad.

Not a nice thing to say or face up to I agree.

Stating a simple basic there wouldn’t be any music without artists creating would there?

Without Artists creating there would be no big bad record labels, no managers or  agents and for that matter no music, screen plays, movies , DVD’s and no video games or radio stations and on and on.

I know this is an extremely simplistic way of saying it but the whole music industry machine relies on the artists  ability to create and the people who create music, books and movies are called ARTISTS.

Sure we could have a 10 year discussion on what is good art or bad art but thats in the eye of the beholder and not the point here.

My point is that you are entirely and fully responsible for what happens with your artistic career no one else…no one.

If you, the artist, could entirely embrace that concept all would go well or at least improve.

Its easy to say but very hard to apply in life,  I know that and we all have varying degrees of ability in this regard but its still non the less true.

Don’t blame anyone else there’s always something you can do as the artist.

It’s like the excuses that promters, artists and mangers give when a gig is poorly attended.

These excuses vary from, it was raining, to ,there was a football game on TV tonight, and the excuses are endless.

My response is always “You would have sold out if it had been the Beatles playing tonight ” because its true as it could have been a blizzard out there or you were up against the Super Bowl…that gig would sell out I promise!

The artist is always cause over his career and the condition that career is on and how it progresses.

I hope you agree.
